THE ROCK THAT BURNS
Strip mining is one of the most productive ways to produce coal in large amounts.
The process of stip mining is also less costly than deep mining, thanks to the larger equipment used such
as scrapers and excavators.
When the coal is un-earthed pneumatic drills are used to break apart the large pieces of coal and is than
hauled into trucks to be taken away.
This style of mining does not call for shafts or expensive elevators which would bring the coal to the surface.
in strip mining the coal is uncovered and used as the surface.
The machinery that is used is more efficient and can be used for multiple tasks to uncover, remove, and
transport the coal and other materials that are mined.
